General Information on Mountaineering Visa
The Mountaineering Visa is granted to foreign nationals wishing to undertake mountaineering expeditions in the Indian Himalayas. This visa is mandatory for all foreign expedition teams and must be obtained well in advance, along with necessary approvals and documentation.
Applications must be submitted at least 5 months before the intended date of the expedition.

Who Can Apply?
This visa is applicable to:
- Foreign nationals or groups intending to climb or trek in mountaineering-restricted areas in India (primarily the Himalayas).
- Climbers or expedition members participating in pre-approved mountaineering programs under Indian or international collaborations.
- Participants joining expeditions coordinated with or recognized by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF).
Application Guidelines
- Apply at least 5 months in advance of the expedition start date.
- The Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) must approve the expedition and route.
- Provide all supporting documents as per the IMF guidelines and visa checklist.
- Applications must be submitted through the designated DU Digital Global Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) by prior appointment.
- Biometrics are required at the time of visa application.
- The passport must be valid for at least 6 months with three blank pages.
- Visa validity starts from the date of issue, not from the travel date.
- The Embassy reserves the right to approve or reject any application at its discretion.
- Visa processing fees are non-refundable.

- Fees must be paid via cash at ICAC along with a EUR 3 consular surcharge (except in Gratis cases).
